GAL RAVIV NAMED TO NANCY LIEBERMAN AWARD WATCH LIST

Gal Raviv is one of 20 players nationally on the 2026-27 Nancy Lieberman Point Guard of the Year Award Preseason Watch List, which the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame announced Monday. The University of Miami women's basketball guard is among the nation's premier point guards recognized ahead of the season.

The award recognizes the top point guard in NCAA Division I women's basketball and is named for Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Famer Nancy Lieberman. The preseason watch list will remain fluid throughout the season, with players added or removed as the year progresses. It will be narrowed to 10 candidates in late February before five finalists are announced in March.

Fan voting opens Friday, Oct. 30, and the leading vote getter receives one additional vote in the award selection process. More information is available at HoophallAwards.com.

Can Gal Raviv hold a place among the final 10 when the list gets cut in February, or will the fan vote decide who really wins?

Shockey sees the dog back in No. 1 Miami

A 2001 national champion returns to Hard Rock Stadium and says this team has its fight back.

Jeremy Shockey came back to Hard Rock Stadium on Saturday for the 25th anniversary of Miami's 2001 national championship. The former Pro Bowl tight end led that team with 40 receptions for 519 yards and seven touchdowns, and the Hurricanes beat Nebraska 37-14 in the Rose Bowl. He wore the same 2001 style attire the current Hurricanes wore in a 52-23 rout of Pitt. Then he said what he liked most about this team.

His list started with numbers. Shockey pointed to the efficiency of the offense, which scores a lot of points, and the takeaways on defense. Miami is 7-0 and 5-0 in the ACC, and Darian Mensah threw for 387 yards and four touchdowns against Pitt. But Shockey said the thing he sees the most is that "they have that dog in them again." He added, "They have that fight."

That is a verdict from a player who knows what the jersey is supposed to mean. Miami played Saturday as the No. 1 team in the AP poll for the first time since the 2002 season. North Carolina comes next on Oct. 31, then Notre Dame on Nov. 7. A man who played on the 2001 champions says the dog is back.

Do you see the same dog in this Miami team that Shockey sees?

No. 1 Miami took Pitt apart, 52–23

Mensah throws for 387 yards and four touchdowns. Toney hauls in 16 catches for 194 yards and three scores.

Read the full recap

Pitt came to Hard Rock Stadium hoping a backup quarterback and a leaky secondary would be enough. Miami spent the afternoon showing otherwise, and the final score, 52 to 23, was the least of it.

Darian Mensah threw for 387 yards and four touchdowns without an interception. Malachi Toney caught 16 passes for 194 yards and three scores, including a catch of 53 yards that left the Pitt secondary looking flat-footed. Javian Mallory ran for 47 yards and two touchdowns, and Mark Fletcher Jr. added 41 rushing yards and another score.

Pitt was not finished. Holden Geriner threw for 268 yards, Cataurus Hicks caught five passes for 149 yards, and Damon Ferguson Jr. scored on a run. The Panthers lost a fumble along the way, though, and when the passing and rushing yards were added up, Miami had 506 yards of offense to Pitt's 403.

Jake Weinberg kicked a field goal from 40 yards and made all seven extra points. Pitt never found the stretch of football that turns a game around, and Miami never gave it one.

The No. 1 ranking was supposed to paint a target on the Hurricanes. They carried it onto the field, played as if the target were not there, and let the scoreboard make the argument.

Which Miami player did you think stood out?
